Brooklyn Nine-Nine star and Saturday Night Live alum Andy Samberg has been named the host of the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, which will air live on Sept. 20 on Fox.

"The moment the Emmy Awards’ host was brought up, we said it had to be Andy," Fox Television Group chairmen and CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden said in a statement. "He is fearless, hilarious, an award-winning comedian, singer, writer, and actor with incredible live TV experience."

Added Television Academy chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum, “It’s wonderfully fitting that we have Andy Samberg, an Emmy Award winner himself, as our host for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.” Samberg, an Emmy winner for his SNL viral song and video hit “Dick in a Box,” follows another SNL alum as Emmy host: Seth Myers, who hosted last year’s awards.

"Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers!" Samberg said of his inaugural gig as Emmys host. "Like, in general you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road. Also, if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I’m hosting, and it’s gonna be a wild ride. So buckle your seat belts."

Samberg, who won a 2014 Golden Globe for his role as NYPD detective Jake Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is also developing new comedy projects for Fox, with his Lonely Island comedy troupe partners Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. The group is developing a sitcom starring Community's Danny Pudi and Home for the Weekend, a Neal Brennan-hosted mockumentary that follows celebs as they return to their hometowns and become reacquainted with those they knew before making it big.

The 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
