A New 'SPECTRE' Trailer Teases a Classic Bond Baddie (And Lots of Action)

Christoph Waltz swears up and down that he’s not playing Blofeld in the upcoming 007 flick SPECTRE, but at the very least, the two-time Oscar-winner is sitting in a familiar supervillain-style chair.

The latest teaser trailer for SPECTRE, which you can see above, includes some new footage from the 24th 007 film. Included in that sizzle reel is the brief-but-revealing scene in which everyone’s favorite super-spy is beckoned by a mysterious figure sitting at the head of a long wooden table. If that sounds familiar, you’ve obviously seen quite a few Bond movies (or at least parodies of them). Waltz’s creepy and darkness-cloaked SPECTRE boss announces his presence with what seems to be a wink at the series’ past: “Welcome, James, it’s been a long time,” he purrs. “And now finally, here we are.”

Whoever Waltz is playing, the teaser clearly indicates that much of the film will focus on Bond’s old secrets — including a mysterious family photo recovered from his charred Skyfall estate. We don’t get much more plot than that, but are treated to a serious action montage that includes glimpses of the movie’s Alpine location, the Mexico City Day of the Dead sequence, and our secret agent’s interactions with various Bond girls.

SPECTRE, directed by returning Skyfall director Sam Mendes, hits theaters on Nov. 6.
