Miles, Siir Brock, on Coming Out on ‘Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood’: ‘There’s Been Times That I Regretted It’

Gay couple Miles (Siir Brock) and Milan Christopher joined the Love & Hip Hop Hollywood cast this season.

If the Emmys added a category for Salacious Drama in a Reality Series, the Love & Hip Hop franchise and its spins offs in Atlanta and Hollywood would always get nominated. The various storylines have tackled everything from infidelity to sex tapes to one of the genre’s most taboo subjects: being a gay male rapper.

The intense conversation and debate about two new Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood cast members who are gay prompted VH1 to host a roundtable discussion LHH: Out in Hip Hop that airs Monday at 11 p.m. following series broadcast.

“I think everybody was just scared with this story on the show,” Miles, aka Siir Brock, who came out as bisexual on the series, told Yahoo Music. “It’s Love & Hip Hop and I’m a rapper and this is Hollywood. But being in the black community, homophobia is real. We didn’t know how much press it was going to get once it came out. The idea to do this roundtable just came out.”

Hosted by ABC correspondent T.J. Holmes, LHH: Out in Hip Hop includes a dialogue with prominent hip hop figures – DMC, Ray J, Allhiphop.com co-founder Chuck Creekmur – as well as members of the LGBT community, clergy, and others.

Siir Brock was specially moved by the heterosexual artists’ commentary about LGBT topics. “It was definitely eye opening,” he explained. “I was kinda in shock. To have heterosexual pioneers in the game give their opinion was pretty mind blowing.”

Siir Brock admits, however, that the public criticism has been tough. “I’m not going to paint a pretty picture,” he said. “It’s definitely been hard. It was definitely stressful and there’s been times that I regretted it.”

He credits his support group with helping him through the process. “The people and my fans reaching out to me and thanking me, and the lives that I’m changing makes every ounce of pain I’ve encompassed worth it.”

Siir Brock dismissed rumors that other male cast members did not want to shoot scenes with him or his boyfriend, rapper Milan Christopher. “Absolutely not,” he said. “I don’t even know where that rumor came from.”

He even downplayed reports that he and Milan have broken up. “Yeah he did post some things on social media,” Siir Brock said, admitting that Milan helped fuel the rumors. “Me and Milan are like every other couple. We argue. We fight. With our relationship being on this platform and being under the microscope it’s been hard. We’re just going through one of those rough times. He got mad. It happened. But it will be all good.”

Siir Brock said the same consideration should be given to his music. He does not like being labeled a “gay rapper.” “I’m not a gay rapper,” he said. “I’m a rapper who happens to be open about who he lays with. I’m an artist. I listen to music. I write. I jump in the booth and I go home.”

Siir Brock, who recently released a song and video “West Coast,” also has an EP, Are You Ready, available on iTunes.
