Canberra woman wins $50 million in Powerball lottery

A Canberra woman is now $50 million richer after scooping the entire division one prize in Powerball overnight.

Her six-game QuickPick entry purchased in Gungahlin, was the only ticket to come up stumps in the jackpot draw.

The registered entrant was unaware she had won until she received the life-changing news over the phone this morning.

"Oh my god! My heart is beating so fast! I can't believe it!" the overwhelmed woman exclaimed to the NSW Lotteries official who called her.

"The only thing I can say at the moment is I'll be able to buy myself a house! It will be my first home!"

The woman who describes herself as a hard worker said she would share her millions with those in need.

“I’ll also donate money to charity. I moved to Australia more than ten years ago so I want to give back.”

Unsurprisingly, the new multi-millionaire has chosen to remain anonymous.

Her lucky numbers were 39, 26, 31, 25, 37, 29 and the Powerball number was 2.

It's the second winning ticket sold by Gungahlin Centre News in less than six months.

A $1 million division one winning ticket was sold at the northside newsagent in December.

"We're very excited! I was so surprised when we found out we'd sold another winning ticket," newsagent Rudy Lu told PRIME7 News.

The outlet has also sold a $200,000 Lucky Lotto ticket.

Powerball will offer a $3 million division one prize in next Thursday's draw.
