The Craziest Things That Have Happened In Airports

Just when you think you’ve seen every possible thing that could happen at an airport, you get surprised once again. Case in point: Last Friday, we saw a variation on “the airline lost my luggage” scenario, when hundreds of people who flew out of Miami International Airport arrived at their destinations with no luggage. The culprit turned out to be a technical issue with an American Airlines baggage conveyor belt.
Funny thing is, having an airline lose an entire planeload of luggage is far from the strangest thing that’s happened in an airport. Check out these crazy airport occurrences!

Get out and push

Either these passengers are extremely determined, or “flight delay” doesn’t translate into Russian. But when this Siberian airline plane got stuck in the ice (amid minus 60-degree temperatures), these passengers got out and pushed. The flight took off.

Crazy catch

Sign this guy to an NFL contract! An airport security guard in Poland notices a child about to fall off a table. Just a second before the child hits the ground, the guard makes an amazing grab, worthy of ESPN’s “Plays of the Week.”

Stowaway

Next time you’re in an airport, keep your eye out for this woman: She might be trying to sneak onto your flight. Marilyn Jean Hartman, 63, has been busted repeatedly for sneaking past security and hopping aboard flights without buying a ticket. She allegedly pulled off the stunt in California, Arizona, and most recently in Minnesota earlier this month.

All by myself

A passenger stuck at the Las Vegas airport managed to turn a long layover into viral immortality when he shot a music video for Celine Dion’s “All by Myself” in the empty airport. Not only did his project get him millions of viewers, it got him a meeting with Celine Dion herself!

Plane lands at wrong airport

A big oops for this Southwest Airlines flight, whose pilots landed the plane at the wrong airport. The 737 was bound for the Branson Airport in Missouri, but instead landed at a much smaller airport seven miles away. The smaller airport has a smaller runway, and the plane had to brake hard to avoid running off the edge. No one was hurt, except maybe the pilots’ pride.

This gives new meaning to the term “Check your head.” Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport reportedly intercepted a package filled with 18 severed human heads. Authorities said the heads were probably being used for a medical experiment. As if that makes it less creepy.

Security-line groper

This isn’t the kind of thing that makes one feel secure about airport security. At San Francisco International Airport last summer, a 53-year-old drunk man allegedly posed as a TSA agent and tried to dupe two women into submitting to pat-downs. He was caught by real security officers.
