Milan Fashion Week AW15: Pregnant Model And Children Take To The Catwalk At The Dolce&Gabbana Show

The label chose to use their autumn/winter show to celebrate mums in a nod to upcoming Mother’s Day

Babies and young children aren’t only making an appearance on the FROW at this season’s various fashion shows, they’re now gracing the catwalk, too.

At this weekend’s Dolce&Gabbana show at Milan Fashion Week, pregnant model Bianca Balta got a round of applause as she walked the runway with her baby bump.

The model, who looked to be well into her third trimester, wasn’t the only maternal touch brought to the show. Some 11 women and their children had their chance to walk for the high-end label, too.

Children aged from a few months old to around the age of five took to the catwalk with their model mums, wearing the label's new kidswear range.

The design duo behind the brand decided to include the family aspect as an early Mother’s Day present to women.

They're dedicating next season’s entire men’s and women’s collections to mums to allow “fashion to be seen as an extension of where one comes from,” the show’s notes stated.

As part of their designs, the brand’s founders Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana used drawings done by their nieces and nephews to inspire flared skirts, strapless dresses and scarves featuring phrases such as, “You are the most beautiful mother in the world.”

Even the label’s handbags were designed for mums, created in a large size to make room for everything that parents need to carry around with them.

The Dolce&Gabanna show isn't the only fashion event to feature a pregnant model this season. At London Fashion Week, Temperley London featured two pregnant models in their show on Sunday 22 February.

Jacquetta Wheeler and Swedish model Caroline Winberg showcased their blossoming bumps in a tailored jumpsuit and glamourous gown.

And a whole host of young children have been filling the front row seats at both New York and London fashion weeks, demonstrating the growing inclusiveness of the shows.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter North sat propped on her mum’s knee at two New York fashion week shows – and, to the dismay of US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, threw a noisy tantrum at both.

Three-year-old Harper Beckham seemed more content watching her mum Victoria’s fashion show, quietly accompanied by her three brothers and dad, David.

Formula 1 heiress Tamara Ecclestone also continued the trend, taking her baby daughter Sophia along to the Julien MacDonald London Fashion Week show – who remained incredibly calm and content throughout.

Either way, we’re happy that fashion shows are becoming more diverse and all-accompanying. Here’s hoping it continues!
