Country Star Alan Jackson’s Eggnog Recipe

There’s nothing we love better at Yahoo Food than folks who enjoy eating, cooking, and entertaining as much as we do. It turns out that country star Alan Jackson is one of those people. He published a cookbook in the ‘90s called Who Says You Can’t Cook It All and even penned a song about his love of bologna. (He still likes his lunch meat on white bread, as he confesses in the video above. Just so you know.)

With the holidays right around the corner, here is Jackson’s recipe for eggnog spiked with both light rum and bourbon. And if you’re looking for a last-minute holiday gift for your favorite country music fan, you can snag a signed copy of Jackson’s cookbook on his website.

Alan’s Eggnog
Serves 8

If you want to take your holiday cheer (and flavor) to the next level, spring for whole nutmeg that you grate yourself, rather than powdered nutmeg.

1 pint heavy whipping cream
1 ¼ cups sugar
6 eggs, yolks and whites separated
¾ cup bourbon whiskey
1/3 cup light rum
1 quart whole milk
Nutmeg, optional

Whip the cream until stiff, adding ¼ cup sugar towards the end.

In another bowl, whip the egg whites and ½ cup sugar until stiff.

In a third, larger bowl, whip the egg yolks and remaining ½ cup sugar until creamy. Add the bourbon and rum to the whipped egg yolk mixture. Stir in the milk.

Combine all the ingredients and chill. To serve, top with a sprinkle of nutmeg, if desired. Enjoy.
