Explosive accused held in custody

A Perth man charged with possessing explosives will remain in custody until next month.

Benjamin Pilgram appeared in Perth Magistrates Court today after police allegedly discovered explosives in his West Perth property.

Police allegedly uncovered ammonium nitrate inside two containers, a detonator with a fuse, sticks of power gel and a military projectile during a raid on the commercial unit where he had been living.

Officers also allegedly seized several cannabis plants and drug paraphernalia.

Mr Pilgram was charged with three counts of making or possessing explosives in suspicious circumstances, permitting the use of premises for the use of a prohibited drug or plant and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Guy Murphy noted the "exceptionally serious" nature of the alleged offences.

Mr Pilgram did not make an application for bail. He is due to reappear in Perth Magistrates Court on April 2.
