Burning Man's Post-Apocalyptic Festival Fashion

Burning Man, an art and music festival that takes places in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, used to be known as a digital detox environment where burners — the nomenclature assigned to attendees — went to unplug and let loose. Now, in its 27th year, the annual get-together, described as an "experimental community" and the largest outdoor festival in the United States, has joined the likes of Lollapalooza and Coachella with iPhones, WiFi and social media streaming the experience out to the rest of the world. While diehard devotees may lament the upgrades, fashionistas aren't complaining about getting an inside look at the celebration's wild styles. The desert campground has no running water, plumbing or electrical outlets (portable generators power DJ sets). Daytime temperatures tend to exceed 100 degrees, dip to nearly freezing at night, and dust storms and generally unpredictable weather are the norm. The atmosphere calls for kooky, crazy and (often pretty dirty) outfits. Check out some of the best of Burning Man fashion found on social media so far. — Lauren Tuck, Shine Staff
