Hear It First: The Bright Light Social Hour Previews ‘Space Is Still the Place’ LP

Austin is a perpetual hotbed for new and boundaries-pushing music, with psych-rock band The Bright Light Social Hour standing out as a forerunner in 2015. The band is poised to release a new album, Space is Still the Place, on March 10; Yahoo Music is excited to provide fans and music explorers a first listen to the LP a full week in advance.

Space is Still the Place — recorded at the band’s Austin studio — encompasses the concept of a “Future South,” which was developed by the members after extensive touring in America’s Southern region over the last few years. While on the road, the band usually stayed with people in various cities instead of hotels and gained a new perspective on the struggle young Americans faced after experiencing it first-hand.

According to the band, “‘Future South’ is both an aesthetic and political statement. We’re taking forms and influences from soul, blues, and gritty southern music and ushering them forward. The idea evinces the south can be a vibrant egalitarian place.”
