Pepsi Cheetos: The Snack So Weird, You Kind of Want to Try It

Food bloggers have been in a tizzy over the news that Japan is home to the newest and most buzzed about processed food product, Pepsi-flavored Cheetos

The limited edition chip—whose proper name is Frito Lay Cheetos x Pepsi Shuwa Shuwa Cola Corn Snack—finally answers years of angry cries from consumers who really hate to buy their soda and chips as separate products.

Unfortunately, according to most online reviews, the attempt to mix the flavors of Pepsi with the cheesy crunch of Cheetos isn't a flavor experiment that can be called "successful."

In fact, the taste can't really be called "good"—which is a problem when you're talking about things you put in your mouth.

But these Cheetos do create a carbonated sensation when you eat them—kind of like Pop Rocks, if Pop Rocks came in a "blindingly sour" flavor.

As Steve from the Impulsive Buy describes the taste:

"It’s very citrusy, almost sour. And it hits hard...Too lemony...The flavors are very distinct and don’t really ever mesh well together. But they do linger in the mouth for quite a while to leave you with a weird, marginally accurate, if lemony, Pepsi aftertaste."

Did you hear that? Marginally accurate!

Like all the most attention-getting flavor combinations born during summertime, this too has that "created by someone who was exceptionally stoned" quality to it.

Oddball creations—like Dunkin' Donuts' bacon donut breakfast sandwich, the Krispy Kreme sloppy joe, white chocolate and peppermint Pringles—are the kinds of items whose sole purpose is to create a quick and potent hit of social media buzz.

In other words, they're not meant to be staple items, only short-lived novelties. And quite frankly, they don't need to taste good; they just need to be weird enough, or in this case, freaky enough, to get your attention.

Based on the subject of this article, mission accomplished, Pepsi Cheetos!
