7 DIY Beauty Recipes for the Thrifty Gal

By Rebecca Taras, Refinery29

Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year, but what happens to our skin, hair, and nails as a result of the weather change is not so glorious. Between chilly temps and whipping winds, it becomes increasingly difficult for a girl to retain shiny tresses and a glowing complexion. But, instead of investing your hard-earned cash on a new collection of products, we suggest you make your own - thrifty-girl style.

To help you out, Kelly Ryan O'Brien and Jill Badlotto of Chicago Blogger Network told us about seven amazing beauty bloggers who were willing to share their favorite homemade recipes for getting gorg on a dime. Not only are these DIY formulas easy to prepare, they're all natural, too. See ya later, drugstore products. Looks like Mother Nature just stepped in to save the day.

Moisturizing and Strengthening Hair Mask
"I love my ombré locks, but I don't love the dry and damaged effects that come with it -especially in the fall! This moisturizing and strengthening treatment works wonders and is just the trick to keep my hair looking and feeling healthy through these cool, dry months!"

Ingredients:
1/2 cup avocado
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tbs coconut oil
1 tbs honey
1/4 cup water

Steps:
1. Combine ingredients in blender or mix well with spoon.
2. Shampoo hair and rinse. While hair is still warm and wet, apply the mixture to hair from roots to ends.
3. Once the mixture has been generously applied and massaged into the scalp, wrap hair in a warm, damp towel or plastic shower cap and let sit for 15-to-20 minutes to allow the hair to absorb the nutrients.
4. Finish by rinsing hair in cool water (to lock in the moisture and close the cuticle), apply hydrating conditioner and rinse again.

Hyper-pigmentation Treatment
"This homemade treatment for hyper-pigmentation is perfect for fighting those pesky dark spots and uneven skin tone from a summer in the sun."

Ingredients:

A few drops of vitamin E
Moisturizer of your choice

Steps:
1. Mix the Airborne powder packet with a few drops of vitamin E into your regular moisturizer.
2. Apply to your face (but don't get too close to your eyes). You may feel a tingling sensation. The vitamin C in the airborne is what helps brighten the skin, while the drops of vitamin E provide a soothing effect.

"Pumpkins are rich in vitamins A and C, as well as various enzymes that can help nourish and brighten the skin."

4 tbsp honey
1/3 cup ground almonds
1/4 tsp olive oil

Steps:
