Dunk of the year candidate: Jamaal Franklin tosses alley-oop to himself from 3-point line

A very small percentage of college basketball players could pull off the dunk San Diego State's Jamaal Franklin unleashed Wednesday night at Fresno State.

An even smaller percentage would dare to attempt it.

With San Diego State leading by six at Fresno State early in the second half of its 65-62 victory Wednesday night, Aztecs forward Jamaal Franklin led a three-on-three fast break. Neither of his teammates had an open lane to the rim as Franklin approached the top of the key, so he improvised, hurling the ball off the glass, running under it and slamming it for a two-handed off-glass self alley-oop.

Video of the dunk hit YouTube within 10 minutes, earned the top spot on SportsCenter's top 10 countdown and created an instant stir on social media.

Franklin's dunk was the highlight of one of the better individual night's of his decorated San Diego State career. The reigning Mountain West player of the year scored 20 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and dished out five assists -- and the Aztecs needed every bit of his production to extend their winning streak over California foes to 32 games.

This isn't the first time Franklin has attempted a dunk contest-worthy jam in a game.

The first time, he missed a between-the-legs dunk late in the second half of a blowout win over Wyoming last season. This time, the score was a lot closer and thankfully for him, the dunk was successful.
