Victoria's Secret Fans Diss Karlie Kloss's New 'Do

Supermodel Karlie Kloss may have the "it" haircut of 2013, but not everyone loves "it." Back in November of 2012, Vogue magazine requested that Kloss cut her hair for a photo shoot and her hairstylist, Garren Defazio, was delighted to assist with the transformation. "I'm so tired of the soft wave, red carpet hair," he told the New York Times back in January. "Like dead straight hair, wavy hair got old. Some of the other models are taking their hair above their shoulders and in the salon, women are taking their hair to collar bone and above. It's a natural look." Since then everyone from the Times to Huffington Post to fashion blogs have dubbed her choppy bob with bangs the "cut of the moment." (We did, too!) The fashion world is always seeking the hottest new thing, and industry insiders quickly jump on board. But fans of Kloss, and Victoria's Secret, the brand she often endorses, haven't been quite as accepting of her cropped 'do.

2013's Haircut Of The Year Has Arrived!

Backstage at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last November was the first time most of us caught a glimpse of Kloss' bob. Style.com reported from backstage, "The mane event reportedly happened on Monday, courtesy of Garren, on the set of a new shoot --and will likely be concealed by extensions come show time, as these things often go (the word bob does not usually precede bombshell)." Sure enough, within a few hours the extensions were perfectly in place, so Kloss could walk the runway alongside fellow long-haired Angels like Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge, and Erin Heatherton. Now it's being reported that the extensions used to mask her new cut cost a whopping $75,000. We know those breast-grazing, cascading curls have come to define the Victoria's Secret brand, but why can't a sharp bob also be sexy? We contacted Victoria's Secret to discuss Kloss' extensions and their choice to hide or showcase her new haircut, but they have not responded at press time.

Truth be told, Kloss herself wasn't psyched on the haircut at first. "I was totally nervous when I did it. I cried!" she told Fashionista backstage during fashion week in February. Perhaps Victoria's Secret was equally unsure about her haircut until they heard positive feedback from the fashion industry at large. Since their annual fashion show, the brand continued to show Kloss with long hair, until their spring "Fabulous Bra" ad and the new "Very Sexy" ad unveiled earlier this month which featured Kloss with her shorn locks. At the same time, a new spring ad campaign for Moda Operandi featuring Kloss with long hair came out just this week! No word on if extensions were used or if they are merely old photos--we reached out to Moda Operandi but they have not yet commented.

We also spotted an US Weekly poll of nearly 14,000 readers where 69% felt Karlie Kloss looked better with long hair. Clearly there are some mixed feelings on Kloss's haircut. We scoured the internet to get a sampling of the popular opinions. Here's what we found:

It seems like hairstylists love Kloss' hair, Victoria's Secret fans hate it, and guys really don't care as long as she has a hot body. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised, but it will be interesting to see if Kloss and the lingerie brand continue to celebrate short hair.
