Touching Tributes to Cory Monteith Appear on the Red Carpet and Beyond

As we wait to learn what caused the tragic death of Cory Monteith, there is no shortage of tributes to the late star.

Darren Criss, who co-starred on "Glee" with Monteith, paid homage to his late friend in a subtle way on the red carpet on Monday night. The bearded star attended Cinema Society's screening of his film "Girl Most Likely" in Manhattan and had a black ribbon ― the symbol of remembrance or mourning ― pinned to the lapel of his suit.

Criss was scheduled to appear on "Good Morning America" and "Live with Kelly & Michael" this week, but omg! has learned he pulled out of all press commitments following Monteith's sudden death, letting his ribbon make a statement for him instead.

Criss was one of the many "Glee" stars and other celebrities who have paid tribute to the well-liked Monteith, who died over the weekend in Vancouver at the age of 31. However, fan memorials have also popped up, including outside the Fairmont Pacific Rim, where the Canadian star was found dead in his 21st floor hotel room, and by the double arch gate outside Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, home to the "Glee" production. Gleeks have left behind flowers, candles, and messages of love to the actor, who became even more popular for his off-screen romance with co-star Lea Michele.

An online Facebook page devoted to Monteith's life was also started on July 13 ― the day he died ― and it already has more than 732,000 likes.

However, not all the attention has been positive. The highly controversial Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket Monteith's still-unscheduled funeral. The Kansas-based church, which is vehemently opposed to same-sex relationships, has also been posting head-shakingly hateful messages ― like this one ― regarding the actor's death merely because he appeared on a show which has gay characters.

On a more positive note, donations in Monteith's name are being accepted at Project Limelight, which is a non-profit arts program for children in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside neighborhood. The actor played a key part in helping sisters Maureen Webb and Donalda Weaver get the organization off the ground ― and had dinner with Webb, who served as his mentor early in his career, just days before he died.

For now it's a waiting game as far as finding out Monteith's cause of death. An autopsy has been performed on the recovering addict to see if drugs or alcohol played a role. The results are expected to be fast-tracked and could be announced as soon as Tuesday. However, any type of toxicology report will take longer, and it could be days — if not weeks — until the findings are released.
