Katherine Webb makes her ‘Splash’ debut and it’s not terrible

Katherine Webb, the overnight sensation who gained fame simply by being the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, made her reality show debut Tuesday night on the celebrity diving show “Splash.”

And it wasn't all that bad.

Hold your applause, please.

The show had everything – drama, a pseudo belly flop, Rudy Huxtable – and even a pretty decent dive by Webb, who scored a 6.75 to stay around another week (though it was a full point lower than Louie Anderson).

But her best moment might have come during her lengthy introduction, which profiled her well-documented meteoric rise from Miss Alabama, to college football player girlfriend to posing in Sports Illustrated and Vanity Fair.

And at the end of the intro, Webb had one man to thank for her success – ESPN broadcaster Brent Musberger. Yes, we all know the story. Musberger had some complimentary things to say about Webb during the BCS National Championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame and that kicked off Webb’s road to fame.

Funny that ESPN apologized for Musberger’s ogling of Webb and then one of their entities, ABC, uses it as part of Webb’s bio during “Splash.”

Hmmm….

Still, Webb, who said she wanted to show she was more than just a pretty face, actually showed a little diving skill, which should make the upcoming episodes a little more interesting.
